Carson Palmer Traded to the Raiders

By MattDotRich

Oakland and Cincinnati are on the verge of completing one of the NFL’s biggest trade-deadline deals in decades, with the Raiders acquiring holdout quarterback Carson Palmerfrom the Bengals in exchange for two first-round picks, according to sources familiar with the deal.

The first first-round pick is in 2012 and the other is a conditional first-round pick in 2013.

Source: ESPN

And…… hold for laughter…

Yes, the Oakland Raiders just surrendered at least one first round pick for the rights to 32 year old Carson Palmer. Yes, that, Carson Palmer. The one who “retired,” only to see the Bengals improve offensively under an un-highly touted rookie quarterback.

The Carson Palmer who has 154 career touchdowns, and 134 career turnovers despite the infamous pre-injury season where he threw for 32 touchdowns on “just” 16 turnovers. Do the math, it hasn’t been pretty since.

That’s not to say he completely sucks as a fantasy quarterback (but to be fair, he does suck as a real life quarterback), it’s just that he’s a backup at best. We tend to get excited about new people in new places, but let’s remember who Carson Palmer is. Post injury, here’s what he’s done:

SEASON TEAM GP CMP ATT CMP% YDS AVG TD LNG INT FUM RAT
2006 16 324 520 62.3 4,035 7.76 28 74 13 13 93.9
2007 16 373 575 64.9 4,131 7.18 26 70 20 4 86.7
2008 4 75 129 58.1 731 5.67 3 36 4 2 69.0
2009 16 282 466 60.5 3,094 6.64 21 73 13 3 83.6
2010 16 362 586 61.8 3,970 6.78 26 78 20 3 82.4

That’s slang for ‘not too great, my dudez.’ If you’ve got a spot for him go for him, but don’t go crazy trying to acquire him. More than likely, you have a better QB on your bench.

Bye Week Solutions Week 5

Week 5 gives us our first opportunity to show to our league how well we drafted and worked the waiver wire.  Anyone can follow a draft guide and pick off the top of the list, but the bye weeks separate the men from the boys.  Week 5 will miss some big name fantasy players including Ray Rice, Tony Romo, Miles Austin, Dez Bryant, Brandon Marshall, Steven Jackson, and Santana Moss.  If you find yourself in a tough spot, you can check out the players who are being added, you can look at the easy matchups for the week, or you could make a trade.

The most added players this week include Isaac Redman, Stevan Ridley, Eric Decker, and Victor Cruz, who are all viable fantasy flex player this week (as long as Mendenhall is out).  Here is the complete list from ESPN.

The players you may not normally start, with easy matchups are as follows:

  • QB:  Mark Sanchez  @ NE, Eli Manning vs. Sea
  • RB:  Joseph Addai vs. KC, Dexter McCluster @ Ind
  • WR:  Jordy Nelson @ Atl , Julio Jones vs. GB
  • TE:  Jermaine Gresham @ Jac, Owen Daniels vs. Oak

During the bye weeks I have also noticed a lot more trade proposals being sent out, so make sure to check out our Trade Analyzer before making an impulsive trade decision that you may regret.
